Jade’s Pre-K Curriculum

Here are Jade’s curriculum picks for this school year 2014.  Jade is a 3 year old homeschool pre-school student. She does her pre-school activities from the hours of 9am to 12pm. The rest of the day is left for outside play, extra-curricular activities,  and arts & crafts. She has an educational shelf. She has hands on activities that are put on the shelf in the categories of: Math, Phonics, Writing, Sensorial, Logic, Life Skills, Interest Led, Science, and Art. All of these hands on activities are derived from a book called “ShelfWork”.  Most of her work is hands on, below is the curriculum she is using to supplement ShelfWork.

Bobs Books- These are decodable books that can be read sounding out letters. Jade reads one of these a day.

Description:Teach a child letter sounds with Bob Books Set 1! With four letters in the first story, children can read a whole book. Consistent new sounds are added gradually, until young readers have read books with all letters of the alphabet

“Alpha Phonics” Jade uses this everyday. The lessons are about 10 minutes. I give her the words for the day she reads them by sounding them out. Then we do dictation work with magnetic letters on the board. I say a word and she spells it with magnetic letters or writes it.

Description:Systematic, intensive phonics reading program is SIMPLE and easy to teach, is very effective and very easy for the student to learn.  128 lessons to teach 44 sounds in the English language.  It also brings the lessons in form of a CD and the child can do them on the computer. It also teaches spelling. It brings the teacher manual and tells teacher/parent what to do everyday.

“Mathematical Reasoning, Beginning 2”. Jade will do this workbook twice a week. The other days she is doing hands on math activities that are put on her shelf.

Description:Mathematical Reasoning™ helps students devise strategies to solve a wide variety of math problems. This book emphasizes problem-solving and computation to build the math reasoning skills necessary for success in higher-level math and math assessments. This book is written to the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Beginning 2 book is a complete curriculum for children of age 4.

“Building Thinking Skills, Beginning”. Jade does this workbook twice a week.  I put it in the logic/memory section of her shelf.

Description:Building Thinking Skills® Beginning provides fun, highly effective and engaging reasoning activities to improve the vocabulary, pre-reading, pre-writing, math, logic, spatial, and auditory processing skills of preschoolers.

“Mudpies to Magnets Science Pre-School Science Curriculum” I have Jade do these hands-on Science activities twice a week.

Description:224 hands-on science experiments and ideas with step-by-step instructions delight and amaze children as they experience nature, the human body, electricity, floating and sinking, and more. Children participate in projects such as making a tornado in a jar, creating constellations and growing crystals. Categorized by curriculum areas, each activity includes a list of vocabulary words and easily accessible materials.

Jade has a morning writing workbook that has letters and numbers. She gets one letter and one number a day. This includes tracing the letter, building the letter with playdough or popsicle sticks, and doing other activities included in the pack.

We have these music CDs to do finger plays and sing alongs for our morning circle
